Stephen Curry diagnosed with influenza A, ‘has no specific risk factors for COVID-19’

Warriors guard Stephen Curry (illness) and forward Draymond Green (left knee soreness) have been ruled out of Saturday evening’s game against the 76ers at Chase Center.

Curry was diagnosed with the seasonal flu Saturday morning, team physician Dr. Robert Nied said in a release issued by Golden State.

“We have identified his probable source contact who is not part of basketball operations. He has no specific risk factors for COVID-19. He has the seasonal flu. We have begun treatment for Stephen and instituted our team protocol for influenza exposure,” Nied’s statement said.

Asked about when Curry got the flu, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said, “I was with Steph yesterday and later that afternoon in Oakland, and he was fine. He woke up this morning feeling sick. I know his young son (Canon) was sick for a couple of days, so he probably got it from his son. Our doctors checked him out, and it is the basic flu.”

Curry returned Thursday from a broken left hand that sidelined him four-plus months. In 27 minutes of Golden State’s 121-113 loss to the Raptors, he posted 23 points on 6-for-16 shooting (3-for-12 from 3-point range), seven rebounds and seven assists.

Green will miss his fifth straight game Saturday with a tweaked knee. After Green practiced for the first time in a week Friday, head coach Steve Kerr said, “He’s feeling a lot better. He just needs to get some rhythm and some conditioning.”
